Using your Magellan Healthcare benefits
Phoenix Health is in-network with Magellan Healthcare, a specialized behavioral health managed care organization. Unlike general health insurers, Magellan focuses exclusively on mental health and substance use benefits. They administer behavioral health coverage on behalf of other health plans. If your employer's health plan shows Magellan as your behavioral health administrator, your mental health and therapy benefits are managed through Magellan's network, even if your physical health coverage runs through a different insurer. For Phoenix Health members in California, Magellan is a common route for mental health coverage. Our PMH-C certified therapists support Magellan members through postpartum depression, perinatal anxiety, birth trauma, and other perinatal mental health concerns. Magellan plans typically cover outpatient therapy with a specialist copay after your deductible, consistent with federal and state mental health parity requirements. Some Magellan plans require a referral or prior authorization before beginning therapy. We check this as part of our intake process. Before your first session, we verify your Magellan benefits, confirm prior auth requirements, and give you a clear picture of your expected out-of-pocket cost. Sessions are FSA and HSA eligible. To verify on your own, look for a separate Magellan card in your benefits packet, or call the behavioral health number listed on your primary insurance card.

Psychologist & Founder
From our founder
When I had my first child, I was shocked by the challenges I faced as a new mother.
Like so many women, the shame of postpartum depression and anxiety kept me silent for nearly two years. When I began working with postpartum clients, I was struck by how many stories were so similar to my own.
I founded Phoenix Health to make it easier for new mothers like me to find the right help.

Common questions
- Most Magellan Healthcare plans cover telehealth behavioral health sessions at the same rate as in-person care under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. Phoenix Health verifies your specific plan benefits before your first session. Your out-of-pocket cost typically depends on your deductible and copay structure.
- PMH-C (Perinatal Mental Health Certification) is awarded by Postpartum Support International (PSI) to clinicians who have completed advanced training in perinatal mental health — covering postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, birth trauma, and related conditions. It represents the gold standard of specialization in this field.
- If you're struggling — with your mood, your thoughts, your relationship, or just how you're coping — that's enough of a reason to talk to someone. You don't need a diagnosis. A free consultation is a low-commitment first step.
